Gilas Mini-Hydro Power Plant

The Gilas Mini Hydro Power Plant (MHPP) project is a strategic renewable energy initiative developed by PT Gilas Energi Lestari. This project is designed to harness the hydrological potential of the Gilas River to support energy security in the South Sumatra region.

Location and Accessibility
The plant is planned to be located in Gedung Nyawa Village, Runjung Agung District, South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency (South OKU), South Sumatra Province. Logistically, the project site can be reached by land from Raden Inten II Airport, Bandar Lampung. The journey covers a distance of approximately 352 km with an estimated travel time of approximately 8 hours and 30 minutes.

Technical and Operational Specifications
This project has efficient technical specifications to maximize the available head (water fall) and river discharge:

  • Production Capacity: Total capacity of 2.2 MW, generated by two turbine units with a capacity of 1.1 MW each.

  • Main Components: Horizontal Francis Turbine and Horizontal Synchronous Generator, known for their reliability for mini-hydro power generation.

  • Hydrological Parameters: Operating at a head of 37.9 meters with a flow rate of 7.10 m³/s.

  • Penstock Infrastructure: A 120-meter-long penstock with a diameter of 1.3 meters will be constructed to channel water to the turbine.

Current Project Status
To date, the Gilas MHPP project has shown positive progress in administrative and legal aspects:

  • Permit Status: Registration for the Preferred Provider List is currently in progress.

  • Land: The land status is very secure, with all land acquisition and related permits having been successfully obtained, giving the green light for the next phase of development.
